Abraham's Sacrifice

Gen 22.1After these events, God put Abraham to the test. He said to him, Abraham! He replied: Here I am.Gen 22.2God said: Take your son, Isaac, your only one whom you love, go to the land of Moriah and offer him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I will tell you.Gen 22.3Abraham got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, fetched his two young servants and his son Isaac, split wood for the sacrifice and set off for the place that God had given him.Gen 22.4When Abraham looked up on the third day, he saw the place from a distance.Gen 22.5Then Abraham said to his young servants: Stay here with the donkey! I will go with the boy and worship; then we come back to you.Gen 22.6Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and loaded it on his son Isaac. He picked up the fire and the knife himself. So both went together.Gen 22.7After a while Isaac said to his father Abraham: Father! He replied: Yes, my son! Then Isaac said: Here is fire and wood. But where is the lamb for the burnt offering?Gen 22.8Abraham replied: God will choose the sacrificial lamb, my son. And both went on together.Gen 22.9When they got to the place God had told him, Abraham built the altar, piled up the wood, tied his son Isaac, and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.Gen 22.10Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to kill his son.Gen 22.11The angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven: Abraham, Abraham! He replied: Here I am.Gen 22.12He said, Do not reach out your hand to the boy and do nothing to harm him. Because now I know that you fear God; you did not withhold your only son from me.Gen 22.13When Abraham looked up, he saw that a ram had got its horns caught in the brush behind him. Abraham went and took the ram and offered it as a burnt offering instead of his son.Gen 22.14Abraham called this place Yahweh-Jire (The Lord sees), as they still say today: The Lord can be seen on the mountain.Gen 22.15The angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heavenGen 22.16and said: I have sworn by myself - says the Lord: Because you did this and did not withhold your only son from me,Gen 22.17I will give you blessings in abundance and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Let your descendants take the gate of their enemies.Gen 22.18All the peoples of the earth are to bless themselves with your descendants, because you have listened to my voice.Gen 22.19Then Abraham returned to his young servants. They got up and went to Beersheba together. Abraham stayed in Beersheba..
