What are giants in the Bible

Who or What Are the Nephilim?

The Nephilim ("fallen, giants of the earth") were the descendants of sexual relationships between God's sons and daughters of man (Genesis 6: 1-4). There is much debate about the identity of the "Sons of God". In our opinion, the sons of God were fallen angels (demons) who mated with human women or demon possessed human men who mated with human women. These connections gave birth to descendants, the Nephilim, "the heroes of ancient times, the most famous" (Genesis 6: 4).

Why would the demons do this? The Bible does not give us a direct answer to this. Demons are evil, twisted beings - so nothing should surprise us what they do. One motivation could have been that the demons tried to defile the human bloodline to prevent the Messiah from coming. God promised that one day the Messiah would crush the head of Satan (Genesis 3:15). The demons in Genesis 6 may have tried to prevent Satan's head from being crushed to prevent a sin-free "seed of woman" from being born. Again, this is not a direct answer from the Bible, but it would be biblically plausible.

What are the Nephilim? According to Hebrew and other legends (the Book of Enoch and other non-biblical scriptures), they were a race of giants and superheroes who did much evil. Her large size and strength presumably came from mixing demonic "DNA" with human genetics. According to the movie Noah, starring Russell Crowe, the Nephilim fell angels were shrouded in stone. All we know about them from the Bible is that they were "famous heroes of the past" (Genesis 6: 4). The Nephilim were not extraterrestrial beings, angels, "seers" or stone monsters; they were literally physical beings that came about through the union of God's sons and daughters of man (Genesis 6: 1-4).

What happened to the Nephilim? The Nephilim were one of the main causes of the great flood in Noah's day. Immediately after the Nephilim were mentioned, God's Word said: “When the LORD saw that the wickedness of men was great in the earth, and all the poetry and aspirations of their hearts were only evil, he regretted that he had made men up And he was grieved in his heart, and he said, I will destroy men whom I have created from the earth, from man to cattle and to worms and to the birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I made them ”(Genesis 6: 5–7). God brought the flood over the entire earth, killing everything and everyone except Noah, his family, and the animals on the ark. Everyone else perished, including the Nephilim (Genesis 6: 11-22).

Did Nephilim Still Exist after the Great Flood? Genesis 6: 4 says: "There were giants in those times and still on earth afterwards." It seems like the demons repeated their sin after the flood. However, it is likely that it happened on a much smaller scale than it did before the flood. When the Israelites scouted the land around Canaan, they told Moses: “We saw giants there too, Anak's sons (the descendants of Anak came from the Nephilim) of the race of the giants, and we were and were like locusts in our eyes also in their eyes ”(Numbers 13:33). This passage does not say that the Nephilim were actually there, only that the scouts thought they saw them. It is more likely, however, that the scouts saw very tall people in Canaan and, fearful, believed they were the Nephilim. Or it is also possible that the demons reunited with human women after the flood to beget more Nephilim. It is also conceivable that a line of the Nephilim was passed on through a daughter-in-law of Noah. However, these "giants" were destroyed by the Israelites during the invasion of Canaan (Joshua 11: 21-22) and later in their history (Deuteronomy 3:11; 1 Samuel 17).

What is preventing the demons from producing more Nephilim today? It seems that God has put an end to demons and no longer mates with humans by banishing the demons who did that into isolation. Jude verse 6 tells us: “He also kept the angels who did not keep their high rank but left their abode for the judgment of the great day with eternal bonds in the darkness.” Obviously not all demons are imprisoned today, therefore must there have been a group of demons who committed other dire sins beyond the original sin. It is believed that the demons who have mated with human women are those who “are kept with eternal bonds in the darkness. “That would prevent more demons from committing this sin again.
