What exactly are adaptive educational technologies

Adaptive learning environments: types and notes on use

Why doesn't what works at Spotify (“my music”) work exactly the same in school or in further education (“my learning path”)? There are now some technical platforms that make this possible. Intelligent tutorial systems are one type of such solution.

The diversity or heterogeneity of participants is often a major challenge for those responsible for education. Especially in times when we increasingly expect to receive individually tailored services.

I was able to contribute a short article on adaptive, AI-supported learning environments to the Trend Report 2020/2021 of the eLearning Journal. In doing so, based on Holmes et al. 2019 - made the following categorization of AI-assisted learning environments the starting point:

The focus of the article is on so-called intelligent tutorial systems (ITS), their construction elements (domain model, learner model and tutorial model) as well as instructions for use (including the need to prepare learners for a different, unfamiliar type of learning experience).
