In these explanations you will learn how to compare the size of two areas or the circumference of two figures.

### Compare the areas of two figures

Each linearly bounded flat figure encloses a certain area. The size of this area is indicated by the area, for example as the number of boxes in a box network. With some areas it is easy to say which of the two figures has the larger area.

However, if the sizes of the two faces are very similar, it becomes difficult to decide which is the larger face.

There are several ways to find out which of the two areas is larger.

You lay out the areas with squares of the same size or underlay them with a box network.

### Compare the circumference of two figures

Every straight-lined flat figure has an edge. The length of this edge is known as the perimeter of the figure, and you can get this length by adding the lengths of all the edges of the figure.

How would you decide here which figure has the larger girth?

If you want to compare the circumference of two areas with each other, the division of the figure into is also helpful here.
