Why is freedom always in danger

News and society
Independent journalism is the primary "vaccine" against disinformation amid the coronavirus pandemic. However, according to the new ranking of press freedom published by the NGO Reporters Without Borders on April 20, free reporting is currently "wholly or partially blocked" in more than 130 countries. One year after the start of the pandemic, journalists in many parts of the world are under more pressure than seldom before. Only 12 of the 180 countries evaluated still deserve the grade "good" - and for the first time Germany is no longer one of them. The reason for this is the numerous attacks on press representatives at Corona demonstrations. Our theme collection offers an insight into the way in which freedom of the press is regularly called into question all over the world.
